Victory of “Nomadland” at the Oscars: the triumph of the studios against the streaming platforms

Disappointment for Netflix at the Oscars. Despite a year 2021 marked by the rise of streaming platforms, the latter were overtaken by the traditional studios, which won the most important awards. This is particularly the case of “Nomadland”, studios Disney, which triumphed with five awards, including three of the most prestigious: best film, best actress for Frances McDormand and best director for Chloé Zhao.

Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in “The Father”, a studio film. Sony on a man stricken by dementia, directed by Frenchman Florian Zeller. The award for best screenplay went to Emerald Fennell for his film “Promising Young Woman,” a Universal-Focus Feature film about a young woman who wants to avenge the rape of a friend. Daniel Kaluuya was honored as Best Supporting Actor for “Judas and the Black Messiah,” distributed by Warner Bros., which chronicles the FBI’s attempted infiltration of the Black Panthers.
